In Vancouver Canada, Fraser Health Authority (FHA) employees have been warned that some of them who used a confidential counselling service may have had their personal data compromised due to a computer with a disk containing their personal data being stolen.
In addition to their names, birth dates and contact information the data stolen also include the purpose of counseling for thousands of workers who sought assistance through the service including relationship counseling, drug and alcohol addictions, sexuality questions, abuse, stress and emotional traumas, amongst others.
Imagine going through a tramatic period in yout life and turning to a service which you thought was confidential, only to find your personal data and details of your personal crisis being stolen on a tiny disk. That data could be used against you either through identity theft, blackmail, or even just suddenly appear on a website somewhere.
